Walking in to McKeever Lodge felt inviting, friendly staff, and clean. Room which we had. Beautiful view of the mountains. Able to stand on baloney and watch deer. Rooms and bathroom was clean. The pool was very warm and big. Life guards were friendly and made feel protected. Glad they had kid life vest there. And Dinning room was clean, staff was friendly but the food was over priced for what you get. Me and my family ate there for dinner and breakfast. Dinner I had Fish & Chips. The Fish was a one by one square of fish. Another family member had honey glazed chicken was two small pieces of chicken with carrots and squash mash. And kids menu was so small I had to ask the waitress where it was located. I ordered chicken nuggets for my daughter they were two long pieces of chicken strips. Breakfast. I ordered a ham and the ham was hard as rock, only thing was buffet was 4 and under free. but everything was either cold or over cooked. For dinner we ended up going next town over eat
Because the deer are "protected", they wander the grounds freely.....just driving into the property you are likely to see several!
If you visit, get a room overlooking the Gorge.....it there is fig, you are in for a real treat!
McKeever Lodge offers some of the best accommodations in West Virginia.
The lodge offers over 120 rooms with Excutive Suites on each floor. The Bluestone Restaurants at the Lodge is open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner for gueguestsd the public alike. The Lodge provides its guest with areas to exercise and a heated Olimpic size pool. Your stay is highlighted by the many attributes of being in one of the largest, most well equipped state parks on the east coast. Hiking, Golfing or Horseback riding is provided for you right in the part. The inherent weakness of such a rural location is weak WIFI and very weak TV viewing, so you might want to leave your work until anouther day. During the winter months some of the activities are postponed until spring. All the seasons has its avantages and disadvantages, at the Park. One trip can not surffice, as Spring and Autumn make Pipestem a very different place each time you visit. This was President Kennedys gift to the people of West Virginia, and to the world.
Rustic and slightly run down, decor stuck in the 70's-80's. We did have an issue at check in with the wrong room due to the phone reservation line, but that was quickly fixed and we were upgraded to a suite. Room was great, nice bed, fabulous view from the balcony. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. All in all a really good vacation and a good place to recommend.
Older property but undergoing some renovations..... Has horseback riding, paddle boats, a tram to ride down to the river and Mountain Creek Lodge and Restaurant (fine dining), a Nature Center, Gift Shops, Black Bear Cafe.......and more deer than you can count.
I absolutely love this place. I can't come as often as I would like to but. I swear I'm contemplating moving to the area. The views are breathtaking service is 2nd to none. Logan was our server in the dining room and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection. I fell in love with this State Park from the 1st time I stayed 20+ years ago.
